Our Foreign Language department runs independently of the Cape Town School of English. It has been in operation since 1982 and has recently registered as the Cape Town International School of Languages.
We offer the main European languages, most of the local languages and some languages from the Far East.
The main languages that are on offer are: German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Xhosa, Zulu, South Sotho, Afrikaans, Japanese, Chinese and Russian. To a lesser extent we have requests for Greek, Turkish, Czech, Tswana and North Sotho.
Language courses are sold with a manual and the CD's to match. Live lessons at our school are included. For those wishing to study on their own, the manual and CD's are available at a special rate.
Group classes, private or semi-private lessons are available to individuals or companies. Although most lessons take place in the evenings, some classes are scheduled during the day. A basic of 20 hours per level is recommended.
Mr Norbury, the Director, offers extra lessons at no cost to those who, after completing the course, feel they need further lessons.
The method is fast moving, highly focussed and integrates basic key structures and practical spoken conversation. The main emphasis is placed on the spoken word with practical use of socially interactive language and topics. General topics covered are Food, At Reception, Using the telephone, Travelling, Family.
The courses cover all levels from Beginners to Advanced. Courses can also be adapted with specific work situations such as companies needing special courses for their employees.
Translations
A translation service is also offered for the main European and South African languages. Sworn translators are available in some languages. Translations in electronic format are preferable although hard copies are accepted.
